People sure like shrimp! Fried, broiled,
boiled, sautéed, steamed and grilled. Just
about anyway you can conjure up a dish using
shrimp, we like to eat it. In fact, shrimp
has become the number one seafood of choice,
surpassing tuna. Americans alone consume
over one billion pounds of shrimp annually.
We seem to prefer to eat shrimp out at restaurants;
only 30% of all shrimp consumed come from
grocers and retail outlets for seafood. Think
of all the places that feature a shrimp special,
a shrimp salad or an all you can eat night
serving shrimp. Shrimp used to come strictly
from the sea. But the demand for shrimp is
so high that the majority of shrimp consumed
today are farm raised. |
